Mar 30  |  Big Week

Thanks to Scott, Greg, Mike and Jenn in the frame shop and Patrick, David and Birger in the pain(t) shop we sent 11, count ‘em ELEVEN bikes out the door this week including:

3 to England
2 to Japan
1 to Germany
1 to Singapore
1 to Ohio
1 to Cali
1 to Jersey
and shit, someone that lives here in Portland even came and picked up a bike (thanks Josh).

What does it involve to get all of those bikes ready and out the door? Well it’s midnight and I’m ready to hit “publish” and then hit the sack, so this is only a partial list, but off the top of my head: Lots of finish work in the paint shop i.e. buffing, unmasking, cleaning up imperfections (I make that sound way prettier than it is), QC’ing the paint work, facing and chasing the frames, framesavering, installing headbadges and dropout faces, machining wooden dummy axles for shipping, building bike boxes, corresponding with customers and freight companies (4 different companies this week) to plan the shipment, building, tuning and test riding bikes, unbuilding them enough to pack them down, power naps, stimulating beverages and power ballad after power ballad.

Everyone has been 100% on. It has been awesome to witness the Vanilla WOrkshop team working so cohesively toward one goal.

Some photos:

The inside of Florian’s box. You can’t tell, but that’s a carbon seattube in there. The lighter frame really (not really) cuts down on shipping costs on the frames going overseas.

Frame, Fork, Hub, Hub, Stem, Posthead assembly

More soon.

  4. It would be interesting to know how many people have gone for each colour option at the end of each batch run. To see how common you colour selection is out of the four options.

The outside colour of the vanilla/speedvagen unit in the rear of the first picture is quality. You should think about using that has a SM colour combo on the SVCX! ;)
